Wrong Number rattles the senses
A half dozen selections of evolved rhythmic twitches and splatter drums run rampant on Wrong Number. John Nap delivers with fidgety melodic shifts on “vsnore.” Gliding into calm waters, “sub level ft. luc grey” is chilled to the touch, but if you dig further, breakbeats continue to cast their shadow above loosened synth strands. It’s as if John Nap merged and submerged these tunes in one fell swoop— downtempo grooves are lathered with rhythmic detail, simply dense and shimmering. “phantasm ft. luc grey” provides a sense of chaotic creativity and confounding beauty as it rises from low elevations. While at times feeling improvised and introverted, Wrong Number rattles the senses; tracks like “jomandbaste” untangle a myriad of beat patches and slithering tones as the closing piece, “vsnore solo remix,” finds its alter-ego—skittering drums and echoes flicker from all sides, leaving us to only imagine what’s next from the multi talented musician.
