Sumner :: Post Apocalypse Now (Heterodox)

We can hear distant voices tethered to crumbled industrial beats and bass as Sumner (aka Ramon Mills and Jason Cesarz) deliver Post Apocalypse Now, mastered by none-other than Robert Galbraith of Component Records.

Creating ethereal yet dystopian landscapes

We can hear distant voices tethered to crumbled industrial beats and bass as Sumner (aka Ramon Mills and Jason Cesarz) deliver Post Apocalypse Now, mastered by none-other than Robert Galbraith (of Component Records)—it’s a small world after all. For fans of Somatic Responses’ fractured electrical sound worlds, the title track kicks off the album with dithered voices and rhythmic fury. The album persists, and with a vengeance it seems. “Battle Hymn at Neo-Kaloria” distributes low-key glitches as it eventually implodes into a technoid frenzy that melds submerged melodic notes with turbulent percussion.

The ten featured pieces each have their own impacting pulse; just have a listen to the rhythmic industrial mechanics of “Jhakyl Kata” as the duo slow things down just a tad on the downtempo flowing “Fields of Lapaca.” The album doesn’t slow down either, each sonic morsel packing a punch, creating ethereal yet dystopian landscapes (“Krojga Run”) and synaptic connections (“Trisilian Delight”) that never quite run out of fuel. We love the smell of harsh mechanical electronics in the morning.
