One unified journey
Phoebe Dubar’s debut full length album for Lo Recordings Awake Within The Dream is a blissfully soothing entry into the world of healing by sound. The listener is transported immediately away from the effects of modern life—something I personally find more compelling by the day—escaping the too-much and too-fast of it all. This album is a gestalt; while we can talk about the particulars of the use of singing bowls, kalimbas, or handpans and field recordings, it’s really about how it all comes together into one unified journey. There is a carefully crafted balance within, at no point do I feel a longing for more of this or less of that. It’s flawlessly arranged and recorded, something that is a feat given how many actual field recordings are present.
