Swartz et :: Desert Meditations (Utter East)

Capturing light waves and nostalgia, subtle melodic strands drift and fade away as we’re given the opportunity to let these sounds dissolve and cast their tones and drones upon us.

In the midst of what appears to be nothing, is something

We’ve had Desert Meditations on a loop for several months, originally released in April of 2022, Steve Swartz (aka Swartz et) creates open spaces that evaporate; stretched time capsules that could roam for an infinity. Recorded in various places throughout southeastern Utah, with additional parts recorded in Detroit, Michigan, there’s a particular sheen that Swartz is able to evolve throughout these ten sonic Polaroids. Capturing light waves and nostalgia, subtle melodic strands drift and fade away as we’re given the opportunity to let these sounds dissolve and cast their tones and drones upon us. There’s curiosity and wonder, chaos and comfort, lightness and darkness that simply surrounds. Its connectedness and subtle swaying motion drives a message as Desert Meditations seamlessly collects tranquilized timbres and textures for as far as the eyes can see. In the midst of what appears to be nothing, is something.

“Desert Meditations is a fuzzy, heat-warped ambient/drone album improvised on a synth in the middle of a desert.” ~ Steve Swartz
