When you dive into these analogous time capsules, the soundscapes and soundtracks seamlessly come to life, as if only a few machines were massaged to create such audible treasures.
A foray of blissful modular waveforms
With which machines Ian Boddy is able to extract these half-dozen tracks is simply beyond me and perhaps even beyond time and space. His arsenal listed on the Coil release page seems a bit hefty, and yet when you dive into these analogous time capsules, the soundscapes and soundtracks seamlessly come to life, as if only a few machines were massaged to create such audible treasures. As these rose petals carefully open, fragrant tones and drones, “Messiaen M31” and “Ring,” to more textured blips and bleeps evidenced on the title track and “Teutonium,” are revealed.
Four decades of sound-sculpting a variety of genres, sub-genres, his DiN label, and some of the worlds finest audio architects, Boddy’s own body of work is simply astounding and can be intimidating to tackle with words. As “Flow” captures delicate light particles and drifting melodic strings of life, closing with “Silver Surfer,” and its whimsical synths dipping and diving through a technoid kaleidoscope, sums up this foray of blissful modular waveforms.
