Hexalyne :: Exivvaves (Point Source Electronic Arts)

With characteristic rhythmic splutters reminiscent of alien transmissions, Exivvaves skillfully entwines hundreds of layers, blips, bleeps, and crunchy melodic strands.

A beautifully written glitch manifest

In addition to glitch sculptors such as Valance Drakes, Mtch, exm, Suumhow, and Qebo, Hexalyne—whose only background information is that they are based in Romania—are easily at the top of their game with Exivvaves, the second installment of a trilogy. The first was Null Surfaces described as having “mountaineered IDM’s varied peaks and valleys, standing apart as one of the leaders in the experimental electronic scene.” We’ve known the musician for several years under a variety of aliases, and with Point Source Electronic Arts, he’s pushed on the accelerator with yet another painstakingly produced electronic avalanche. Perhaps he’s turning away from artistic attribution for anonymity and to differentiate himself from past monikers. Nonetheless, the manner in which Hexalyne’s sonic shapes take form, almost feel alive as they progress and evolve. With characteristic rhythmic splutters reminiscent of alien transmissions, Exivvaves skillfully entwines hundreds of layers, blips, bleeps, and crunchy melodic strands. It’s a beautifully written glitch manifest that heralds yet another mechanically rich yet carefully sewn assortment that bends its way through a myriad of soundtrack moments from the outer edges of our universe.
