A beautifully blended album that’s of a timeless quality and makes for a wonderful debut release with Sun Sea Sky—it’s in Lemniskata’s mood and atmosphere which give this record depth. With the right promotion, this could easily make film and video-game scores.

Gemini Tri is the moniker of Denis Piryazev, an ambient-electronic producer based in Moscow, Russia. Lemniskata is his full-length debut with label Sun Sea Sky Productions and adds to his collection 12 previously released EPs and singles including one full-length album. He’s also an artist, often releasing his own art alongside his EP releases. Piryazev does not have a large online presence and there’s little known about him personally as a producer. It’s assumed by choice then that he lets his music do the talking.

Lemniskata is a complex and rich sounding album. The album is versatile in style, ranging from ambient tracks to large scale progressive electronica. Lemniskata’s tracks are structured in a simple way, often beginning with a riff and then becoming layered with more sounds and samples. It’s in Lemniskata’s mood and atmosphere which give this record depth.

Both the opening track, “Somewhere In Nowhere” and final track “Lemniskata” have counting samples in them, whispered delicately in a female voice, “1, 2, 3, 4….” These tracks are gentle and light with softly padded synths and bright sounding melodic sequences throughout. Both tracks are somewhat misleading, as the meat of the album is moody, densely layered and energetic. There’s a blend of Kraftwerk and Boards of Canada in Lemniskata, with richly textured percussion and panorama synths. Layer this with the ambient textures heard in tracks “Taumn.” “Polygonal Horizons,” and “Satori,” and you have something profoundly soulful.

The end result is a beautifully blended album that’s of a timeless quality and makes for a wonderful debut release with Sun Sea Sky. With the right promotion, this could easily make film and video-game scores.

Lemniskata is available on Sun Sea Sky Productions.
