Gaëtan Gromer :: Noise Level (VoxxoV)

This is the first time I’ve heard about Gaëtan Gromer with this digital promo from VoxxoV Records. His new album Noise Level sounds like a pleasant and adventurous one in the experimental electronic music field. Consequently I will try to stay attentive to his further musical explorations and upcoming publications.

In itself the sound aesthetism is wonderfully textural, droney and emotionally intoxicating at its best moments. Gaëtan Gromer offers an imaginative musical syncretism which can be identified somewhere between darkened post-industrial assaults (Telepherique, Olhon, Collapsar…), electroacoustic experimentations of the GRM (groupe de recherche musical with Bernard Parmegiani, Michèle Bokanowski…) and chilling droning ambient (Tim Hecker, Rafael Anton Irisarri…).Noise Level is not your usual noise ambient album, it reveals much more: Challenging timbral excursions interact with meticulously detailed micro-noises, kinetic electronic scintillations, samples and various aleatoric sound motifs. The opening theme is a fuzzed-out and tranced-out buzzing drone theme for guitar and electronics. “Mémoires Du Futur” offers a more synthetic and moving glitch electronic manifest. “The Eternal Conflict” is a soothing soundscape for sustained drones punctuated by pulsating acoustic sequences. “Always Coming Home” home expresses a certain interest for spectrality, concrete music and cyber-like electronic moves.

With ability this album demonstrates a fruitful body of ideas which might continuously captivate the listener. Noise Level is warmly recommended for all listeners of passionate, experimental and immersive electronic music.

Noise Level is available VoxxoV.
