Elin Piel :: Satsuma Sunday (Muzan Editions)

Each track captured as a live performance stands as a singular moment with developed meaning as each thought swirls and concocts fresh images and understandings with repeat listening.

Beautiful as is the air, yet an underlying breath of fear

Live modular synthesis artist Elin Piel pleases awaiting fans with a dazzling return on this 9-tracker titled Satsuma Sunday, out now via Osaka based label Muzan Editions. This is her first full release since the seminal Omsorg, that was put out by Californian modular and tape label Mystery Circles back in 2020. The Swedish artist takes us on a very personal journey as she opens up with vulnerable notions, displaying emotion which starts as an inner dilemma to slowly unfold as they figure out this curious drama with us listening in.

Each track captured as a live performance stands as a singular moment with developed meaning as each thought swirls and concocts fresh images and understandings with repeat listening. Often delicate, there is a binding abrasive tip demonstrated throughout in the form of saturated harmonics. Beautiful as is the air, yet an underlying breath of fear is swept within these sonic winds. Elin Piel demonstrates progression in their musicality and consideration for craft in these multi-layered ambient and downtempo mellifluous conclusions. A sincere followup that casts shadows even over her highly formative debut.
