Dött Ljus :: Bottna (Slowcraft)

A successful and continuously pleasant album that pushes the senses with its serene atmosphere. Imagine an impossible meeting between Farben, Thomas Brinkmann, Purl, Mind over MIDI, Mike Slott, and Malmö; but also with an avenue to experiment within a handful of bright, flourishing and drifting ideas.

Dött Ljus is a young and promising Stockholm based-duo formed by Johan Kisro and Petter Lindhagen. Their dynamic sense of composition admits a plural view on contemporary ambient, micro house and minimal post techno. This first full length album is published by Slowcraft—owned by sound artist James Murray—and devoted to semi-classical ambient/pop and electronic experimentations inside refined and heart-moving melodic paths.

We can notably feel emotional modern classical projects and artists such as Alapastel and Mike Lazarev among others. In this collection of carefully prepared pieces, Dött Ljus invites the listener to a musical journey made of chilly hypnotic grooves and meandering textures that ravish the ears. Precise, minimal, trippy, pulsating, and deeply evocative at once. This album negotiates a convincing dialog between minimal (pseudo) club techno-ish chapters and more soothing, vaporous synthedelic waves—the whole thing punctuated by nostalgic glitch-esque tape motifs. We can appreciate this capacity to challenge categorizations and directions, also the need to interact body and mind perceptions, light with shadow, austerity with brightness.

Sophisticated and minimal sonic paintings which are very recommended.
