Colin Swenson, a talented audio sculptor from Minneapolis, Minnesota, goes by the name Dollarstore Keyboard and showcases his distinctive sound design in the four-track EP Visitation. The opening title track transports us back in time with its slow tempo sonic shifts, calm percussion and catchy melody—flowing like any other (nostalgic) Boards of Canada tune. However, the minimal techno pulse of “QUACK” throws us off with its ghostly synth drones and experimental grit. While the ending track, “Offensive Spells,” tinkers with illbient and warped memories, its blurring of the senses provides a brittle psychedelic aura while the heavier broken beats on “Kiosk” communicate softer, and more structured rhythms. A delicately woven extended player.
