Kolya Dolgov, also known as DJ HeadSick, is a member of Payta and Prodelki Bolnoy Golovy. He describes an eight-track epic of vintage electronics on New Life that transports us back in time to the heyday of IDM, when musicians such as Tim Koch, Esem, Brothomstates, Proem, Abfahrt Hinwil, and Andre Estermann, to mention a few, came crashing onto the “scene” with a wave of fresh, dreamy, emotionally charged experimental electronic music. With New Life, DJ HeadSick dives headfirst into sublime melodic rhythms and shifting breaks, capturing all of those sweet auditory nuances in an aptly named collection.

A Detroit techno infusion of scratchy sounds and possibly a didgeridoo permeates “Kotenok po imeni Gav” as the soothing mechanical structures of “All My Ambient (Love Mix)” drift by. These hazy times are where DJ HeadSick discovers his flow. The already sonically pure and joyful “Spring Will Come” is remixed by Kokokei (aka “Spring Will Come (Soul Mix)”), whose soothing melody flutter emerges above the ashes, while Anderdog amplifies the bubbling pulse of “Red or Black Nails” with a fresh, video game-like entanglement.

The album’s closing title track is a special lullaby that helps the listener let go of the past and make room for a fresh start. Dripping with precious electronica, DJ HeadSick presents an extensive collection that explores new IDM avenues in the Roaring Twenties.
