Based in the Netherlands Shimmering Moods records is progressively making its name in the field of contemporary craft based ambient music. Like on labels such as Time Released Sound, The white Lab, Cathedral Transmission, Triple Moon, Rural Colours and Eilean Rec, the emphasis is given to relatively obscure but generally talented projects who renew in all discretion the world of minimal and experimental music. We have observed a rising interest for this type of musical adventure since a few years now. Each Shimmering Moods records edition is delivered as an ultra limited and lovely handmade release.
Dimitar Dodovski is a sound designer and abstract ambient artist who has released a handful of albums since 2010, notably on Databloem and Womlabel. Dérive is his new album, strictly limited to 50 copies in CDr format. It represents a more contemplative and introspective facet of Dodovski’s music with naturally flowing soulscapes for textural drone sequences and minimally detached melodies. A quite repetitive and hypnotic mood prevails. First comparison which comes to mind is the autumnal and impressionistic soundscapes of electro-krautrockin projects such as Cluster (especially Sowiesoso and Grosses Wasser), and Monoton (Blau) but also some IDM at most atmospheric moments. Minimal pulses, cold textures and gently moving melodies are in close conversation.
