Collectio Vol. 4 is superb serving of Finnish electronics. The EP guides the listener through a range of synthesized sounds, from relaxed meanderings to sweat dripping slammers. Six generous tracks of sheer quality.

collectio-v4Finland punches above its weight in terms of electronic output. X-Rust is less a label and more a collective of like-minded Finns, electronic music being the common denominator. The imprint has been in operation since 2004 but despite its age X-Rust is now releasing its fourth EP, Collectio Vol. 4.

The 12” opens with Rasmus Hedlund, an artist with an impressive catalogue of techno musings. “414” slowly builds, Hedlund padding out beats and bass with hints of 90s European Techno coming through. The track grows into itself with Hedlund adding subtle and heady chords for an excellent start. Jussi Österman aka Vapor is up next. “Hybris” is a dubby piece of dreamed out Detroit, a warbling and gentle track. Österman maintains an understated tone with the isolated “One Possible Story,” a warming track of clicks and IDM abstraction. DJ Burdock debuts with a hardy piece of Electro, building amongst hand claps and dark melodies before transforming into a looming Acid beast. A true stomper. The excellent CRC follows and keeps the 303 ticking over for some squawking underworld techno. Hexe closes this fourth installment with an eclipsed piece of slow house—the track comes from the annals of J.T.C. and D’Marc Cantu, acidic with contained aggression.
