Mewark :: Organization Is (Art-Tek, CD)

Alex Peturin (a.k.a. Mewark) is an artist of the new electronic music generation of Russia. With his first release on a Russian label, Organization Is cultivates a sound that is both rich in texture and creativity. Capturing desolation and coldness from his own software-based instruments (that are now, coincidentally, used in Native Instruments’ Reaktor Library), Mewark composes fragile electronics that shift from inflicted ryhthms to style’s such as minimal-glitch techno and abstract soundtrack ambience. Organization Is also bridges the gap between calm and chaotic, where cool atmospheric breezes wisp by without a trace.

It’s interesting to note that Alex Peturin’s influence comes from the cyberpunk aesthetics of William Gibson, James Ballard and David Cronenberg. Most of the tracks on Organization Is have a mysteriously futuristic vibe to them where you have silence conflicting with digital flicks of lightening. Jazzy moments trickle in and out at certain points while rugged electronic pieces like “ScReen,” “JuNGIES” and “NulCLiD” give the listener a more complex dose of syncopated percussion and fast-paced rhythms. The purpose of such an album is to perhaps “show the unshowable, to speak the unspeakable” (David Cronenberg). Applying such a formula to Organization Is wouldn’t be too far off. In fact, the sounds on this album are continually reinvented, re-evaluated and re-cycled from one end of the audio spectrum to the other. A confusing yet futuristic musical landscape for the brain to calculate.

Organization Is is OUT NOW on Art-Tek Records.
