Colin Dyer is an avant-garde/minimal ambient project headed by the San Francisco based sound artist William S. Braintree. A new promising actor in the DIY electronic music category Colin Dyer channels an isolationist and icy-looped atmospheric vibe with leading thematics as anxiety, fear, collective conditioning and insidious forms of totalitarianism.
Consequently the music featured on Cypher is transportive in a tremendous and utterly grimy—if not intoxicating—voyage to a desolate-painful continent. This frightening soundscaping eeriness enthralls the mind with a vast array of micro-noises, echoing electronic motifs and percussive obliterations. A disillusioned, bleak and hopelessly mental gravitation with a hint of mystery and gloomy rhetoric about the saddest becoming of a (post)humanity. Being at the border of electro-acoustic researches, computerized electronic minimalism and chilling moody-esque ambient, this album will ravish fans of Monoton, Asmus Tietchens, Conrad Schnitzler (in particular Blau, Rot, and Con), Omit (Collin Williams) and Hafler Trio.
The music is the message. These compositions are manufactured utilizing Morse code messaging. The goal is to use music as a form of communication in resistance to an overtly authoritarian government.
