Clemens Acidus :: The Same Thing EP (Kahvi Collective)

The Same Thing is a lighthearted and blissful EP that simply doesn’t overstay its 25-minute welcome.

Four pieces described perfectly on the Bandcamp release page as “thick analog basslines and sweeping chords, and four to the floor beats with classic analog drum machines.” The title track exhausts a robust electro feel and soon dissipates into a melodic downtempo lullaby for late night listening. “Waveshaper” drives an 80s modular rhythm right home with breaks, bass, and bleeps moving towards a nostalgic shift in time. “Infinite Space” is certainly darker in mood as it meanders through low-end thuds and synthesizer swirls that slowly evolve into a foreboding soundtrack. Closing with the tranquilized “Somersault,” the ubiquitous yin-yang entangles seamlessly—an ambient resonance and emotive Artificial Intelligence-era electronica closes off with a somewhat Celtic aura drifting to the outer edges. The Same Thing is a lighthearted and blissful EP that simply doesn’t overstay its 25-minute welcome. Fans of early Secret Frequency Crew, Crisopa, and Kattoo should take note.
