A positive light on classic IDM roots

A promising selection of polished early synthesizer-infused music that sheds a positive light on classic IDM roots. Delving into eloquent listening environments, Wolandroid (aka Mayer Gábor) began his sonic voyage in 1992 as part of the tracker and demoscene—carefully pulling together complex arrangements and allowing them to simply flow. From the nuanced and chilled opening track “Vigilant Keeper” to the vocoder lyrics and bubbling melodies of “Blind Touch,” Wolandroid seeks a place of emotive and tethered upbeat instrumentals in an otherwise turbulent world. Sinking into downtempo strains on tracks like “Out of Reach” and highlighting IDM of yesteryear, “Immutability” is a breath of fresh air as the theremin (or is that a voice?) and moody breaks of “Back to the Flood” offers a colorful accent to this release. Fractured Kingdom captures pristine electronic soundscapes, one that is entangled with utmost charm, focus, and with a sense of curiosity. Recommended for fans of early-era Bad Loop, Eu, Novel 23, Nikakoi et al.
