Dedicated to shimmering and lengthy ambient music excursions with a semi-acoustic sounding quality laaps Records now figures as a key artisan in the development of (instrumental) adventurous indie music. I warmly recommend to explore their side label IIKKI because it includes some of the most precious lush ambient music you can find around. They recently welcome Build Buildings with a new album titled Ecotone, released in beautifully crafted limited edition (CD/vinyl) and accompanied by digital.
Build Buildings is the moniker of Ben Tweel, a scientific researcher and sound artist whose name starts to be familiar for avid listeners in microtonal music and free-form ambient wonders. With a vast arsenal of acoustic instruments and manipulated sound textures, Ecotone delivers a refined post-classic effort which offers beautiful introspective moments, sheer/strange sounds, bright dreamily tones, and fragmented, etched melodic themes. All lovers of aleatoric sound manipulations, playful minimalist improvs and lovely ambient music with a green-cozy feeling we find appealing. The tonal landscapes are sinuous but also punctuated by unpredictable sounds with a tasty and almost glitch-esque effect.
Zen-inspired and detached piano lines occasionally come into the mix for a fragile and intimate sounding elegance.
