The four tracks stick to the same gear and gritty oldschool sound, seemingly teleported from 1990s Detroit, and the melodies and vibes also capture the feelings of cruising through some foreboding futuristic dystopia or alien city.
A cosmic voyage of dark, frenzied, and dense electro
It would be unfair to call this a homage or retro release as electro is still very much alive and well and continues to be released on a regular basis—but some of the more subtle aspects of Detroit classics like Drexciya have been seemingly absent. One of my favorite things about James Stinson and Gerald Donald was always their stunning sound design, with the relatively limited subtractive synths of the era they were able to capture vivid images of an undersea alien world. Blackploid has revived this practice in a cosmic voyage of dark, frenzied, and dense electro. The four tracks stick to the same gear and gritty oldschool sound, seemingly teleported from 1990s Detroit, and the melodies and vibes also capture the feelings of cruising through some foreboding futuristic dystopia or alien city—each of them rounding out a more or less perfect EP from CPU.
