Bålsam :: Dream Landscapes (Shimmering Moods)

Musically Dream Landscapes follows a compositional path where processed field recordings meet organic dronescapes, incantatory ethereal voices and mantric-like new agey electronic loops. The musical syncretism operates with a certain success and offers to the listener a sensual / sensory sound travel.

The Amsterdam based independent label Shimmering Moods is back to the audience with a new batch of releases dedicated to evocative poetical ambient sketches. The releases are delivered in beautiful hand-made packages and are limited to an ultra short number of copies (accompanied by digital downloads).

This monthly selection still welcomes very “secret” bands. Unfortunately I found it quite difficult to find any info, biographical and practical. Let’s stop a moment to tell a few words about Dream Landscapes by Bålsam. Aesthetically and conceptually this album embraces the universe of spiritual naturalism (the mediation and observation of the nature in the rebirth of spiritual life) and mysterious poetical quietness. Musically Dream Landscapes follows a compositional path where processed field recordings meet organic dronescapes, incantatory ethereal voices and mantric-like new agey electronic loops. The musical syncretism operates with a certain success and offers to the listener a sensual / sensory sound travel.

This relatively cinematic and spiritually orientated collection of relaxing and harmonious ambient electronic pieces will easily seduce fans of Sacred space ambient music (Vidna Obmana, Steve Roach, Oöphoi, Klaus Wiese) as well as followers of craft based and ambient-folk dreaminess from Kate Carr, Offthesky et al.

Dream Landscapes is available on Shimmering Moods.
