Bristolian (by way of Barcelona) producer, Zoon van snooK is set to release his new album on the venerable Lo Recordings on April 3, 2020.

[un]usual experimental electrickery

Press Release — Se•pa•ra•ción, Zoon van snooK‘s third album and the follow up to 2013’s acclaimed The Bridge Between Life & Death long player (constructed from Icelandic field recordings and championed by Stuart Maconie, Gideon Coe and Tom Robinson) features ten beautifully crafted new tracks including lead single “Cusco,” which will be preceded and accompanied by a strikingly rarified reworking by Gilles Peterson affiliate: Kayla Painter (Brownswood, Future Bubblers) on March 6, 2020.

Foregoing his [un]usual experimental electrickery, the new album sees snooK strip the solo piano tracks right back while still retaining his celebrated technique of building each song around the melody, rhythm, and soundscape of far-flung field recordings.

Deft, yet weighty, piano progressions lilt, twist and crescendo through nostalgia and defiance, set amid the texture of beguiling field recordings taken from Southern and Central America in 2018. Whether it be a Peruvian quena played in the Andes, a Mayan flute with mesmerizing natural reverb bouncing around the pyramids in Mexico; or a vocal story from within the Brazilian favelas, this is a truly remarkable collection.

To complement the new Zoon van snooK single “Cusco” and to coincide with the release of his brand new long player Se·pa·ra·ción, we bring you the profoundly enigmatic visuals of Sam Wisternoff (Anticon) for Ill Spectre Productions. In typically succinct fashion, Sam describes the video as: “A short film in which a grieving daughter battles with the psychological horror of mixed memories.”

Se•pa•ra•ción is available on Lo Recordings April 3, 2020. [Release page]
