Back in February 2019, we reviewed Portland-based trio Darkswoon’s third album, BIND, and the subsequent months have been hectic ones for the band. Between relentless live dates around the Pacific Northwest and a multi-state tour, they found time to remix the album’s second single “Human Faults” in collaboration with dark-electronic fellow travellers We Are Parasols. Today we’re excited to present the premier of Human Faults Remixed EP.

The first version “Human Faults (We Are Parasols Remix)” starts off with a reversed and obscured vocal and adds an insistent, dancy four-on-the-floor kick/hat pattern. Halfway through it shifts into high gear with a driving buildup and breakdown sequence and runs out with breathy vocalizations added by We Are Parasols singer “D”. For the second track, Darkswoon lead Jana Cushman’s reinterprets her own band’s song. Titled “The Faults of Being Human,” it lulls the listener with a beatless, swirling ambient introduction before pushing the BPM through the roof on the back half.

“The Portland Dark music scene has a strong network of talents engaging together to create a web of creative intrigue. The ongoing collaboration between electrohaze trio Darkswoon and industrialgaze threesome We Are Parasols continues with the release of a two track EP, presenting separate approaches to the remixing of Darkswoon’s ‘Human Faults’. We Are Parasols’ remix is a rich dark dance track filled with cinematic textures and unexpected narrative turns. Darkswoon’s revision is an ambient tapestry with a dance beat that arrives after the serenade. In February 2019, Darkswoon released their debut LP BIND on the French label Icy Cold Records (sister label to Manic Depression Records).”

Human Faults Remixed is available on Darkswoon’s Bandcamp.
