Aho Ssan :: Simulacrum Remixed (Subtext)

Like-for-like we are presented with 7-tracks consolidated in critical gazes of fragmented anguish, which feels very much like a return call of response to the resonating conditions Aho Ssan presented in the original release.

Saturated sonic direction

Over a year since the original release, Aho Ssan commissions remixes of their seminal Subtext debut Simulacrum. Like-for-like we are presented with 7-tracks consolidated in critical gazes of fragmented anguish, which feels very much like a return call of response to the resonating conditions Aho Ssan presented in the original release.

Through saturated sonic direction, often these remixes are contemplative by comparison of the raw force from last year. However, what we hear in them are not tamed down versions by any means; wielding with precision, each featured artist poises the exact moment to lower their guard and produce vulnerable yet devastating nuances.

Personally I find these remixes more accessible for new listeners—but that is kind of the point with the original, you are presented with a reckless world that survives on taking control of your inhibitions. The contributing artists are unapologetic in these performances. Having digested Aho Ssan’s work and answered with bold retaliations, this release alongside the original has created a well balanced and significant 2-part analysis on the state of the world and its people. Highlight tracks include “Simulacrum I – FRKTL Remix” and “Simulacrum IV – Ziúr Remix.”

Currently this is a digital-only release via Bandcamp. Although, the original has just been given a vinyl pressing, hopefully we can see this collection come together on wax in the future as I am sure it would be much sought after.
