What more can you ask for? A free event turned into success from the folks at Imputor? Records. Pictures from this event in San Diego can be found here.
While 300 (or so) people walked through The Casbah during this evening, most of them probably left with a good understanding of the current state of abstract electronic music. Stay tuned for more from the Imputor? V.so series of Live (& Free) events or check their website at www.imputor.com for all the latest information.
Below is a synopsis of what you may have missed if you didn’t trek over to the Casbah on February 8th, 2003.

back by popular demand! the revival of the imputor? v.so series of events for 2003! last year we brought you acts like richard devine, phoenecia, otto von schirach, bogdan raczynski, cylob, dntel, kid-606, and many more. this year our manifesto remains the same: something a little different… creative, original, moving, real live performers busting out all OG shit on various computers, samplers, gameboys, PDAs, synths, MIDI controllers, and other toys and gadgets. no whack-ass fake hipster dj generic trance-house-hi_nrg bullshit. we’ve been on hiatus since the closing of the juke joint, but we’re coming hard in 2003 @ the wonderful casbah. this v.so is a special mexican-wrestling style event with our friends from the oakland-based n5md label.

..:.:: PORTLAND::.:..
Portland (aka Spencer Lytle) is obsessed with his computer and the sounds that it makes. He uses these sounds to write music that expresses his emotions in ways words never could. Love, sadness, anger and everything in between can be heard swimming through his songs meshed intricately with crackles, scrapes, clicks and washes.

Where do we begin with qp? He’s all over the place: Listed as one of URB magazines “Next 100,” Split 7″ with Sindri+Otto von Schirach sold out in 2 days, commercial work for Nike, Nordstrom, Shift Japan, and Lotria Films, remix work for Mystic and FCS North, tours/shows with mu-Ziq, Luke Vibert (Wagon Christ), Scanner, DJ Spooky, Lesser, Nautilis, Jega, Marumari, Add N To X, Amon Tobin, Broadcast, Modest Mouse, and even Erykah Badu! And lest we forget his just-as-busy alter ego… wait, what’s his alter-ego? OH YEAH, it’s a secret.

You know this dude is hardcore, because he’s also done work for Native Instruments, maker of such computer software as Reaktor, FM, Traktor, and others. Trash80 makes the tools that make the music you like. Beat that!
