Disjointed and mind-bending electrical mayhem
It’s always a thrill to hear the expansion of experimental electronic music and its vast sound fields taking shape as the years progress. Music For Commercials does so with 14 tracks spread over 14 floppy discs (remember those?) on their debut compilation titled Floppy have more soul than be ɪ zoʊs.
The France-based imprint has a preference “to use obsolete material to make useful and usable work of art.” Each floppy disk contains one track and even if you don’t have a disc drive, a digital version is available on their Bandcamp page. From the sounds of it, MFC hone in on a varied concoction of abstract electronic music ranging from a variety of genres including breakcore, IDM, ambient, modular, soundscape, clicks’n cuts, glitch, brokenbeat, downtempo, acid breaks, bass, and spastic drums all rolled succinctly into one massive 66 minute journey through disjointed and mind-bending electrical mayhem.
For those into extremely creative and crunchy electronic sound structures from labels like (classic) Skam, Detroit Underground, Kaer’Uiks, Section 27, Massage Brain Cult, X4, Evel et al, Music For Commercials should now be on your radar. Dedicated to environmental preservation, all profits are donated to associations for the protection of the environment and anti-advertising actions. We’re all in.
