I’m a sucker for all things Kaer’Uiks related—their mission from day one was to curate a solid dose of abstract electronic music that doesn’t conform to any particular mainstream model and design next-level artwork that goes a step beyond to create a whole package. They’ve maintained that goal and are now preparing for their fifth anniversary celebrations.
Core Alter is new to these ears, but not anymore, the duo comprised of Steven Baxter and Elliott Watson manage to mangle sublime electronic nuggets from out of this planet, somewhere between Autechre’s robust modular slabs to Phoenecia’s subdued rhythmic grooves, Voice Array is a half-dozen collection of petrified tunes spanning 44 minutes via wicked glitch mayhem. A smattering of shapeshifting drums, flickering melodies, and erratic broken beats allows each piece to expand and unfold its hidden voice.
