NNYz? :: C-BEAMS EP (Self Released)

NNYz?’s sound is self-described as “soundtracks to imaginary pictures,” and if you carefully listen to C-BEAMS, this becomes very clear, if not a bit murky, as it relates to his sonic approach. A baffling dark-ambient release.

NNYz?‘s sound is self-described as “soundtracks to imaginary pictures,” and if you carefully listen to C-BEAMS, this becomes very clear, if not a bit murky, as it relates to his sonic approach.

The intro track to C-BEAMS is “s424ap,” and it falls apart with gritty, almost glitch-like drone-scapes—scraping, crackling, and drifts through dark corridors. The mood is set on C-BEAMS, one that is brooding—not unlike Reveries‘ broken industrial drones—and one that evolves into a slow rolling sandstorm. “Nie3,” on the other hand, weaves its delicate piano keys through similar dark voids as “obfusc” floats eerily through gothic cathedrals in the dead of night. Closing with the more beat-centric “CsMS,” a glitchy and looping mechanical-industrial pulse gravitates around surreal, creature-like soundscapes that sound utterly alive and menacing. “Begin Again”—a track that’s not included on C-BEAMS but originated from the same recording sessions—reveals a treasure trove of blissful chords lapping each other, the atmospheric dark strands fluttering in a dense fog.

A baffling dark-ambient release that floats through analog industrial spheres and imaginary pictures from another world.
