DNN 'When Things Stop To Move'

[Release page] Danny Prusseit’s projects beg for exploration. Under the Atmogat guise, along with cohort Toni Polkowski, they manage to dig up some of the deepest rhythmic bass lines with a cohesive blend of melody and timing. This pseudo-hypnotic material, while seemingly devoid of human interaction, is in-fact propelled by alien transistors and low-tumbling dub splashes throughout its spaces. Try To Feel, DNN‘s previous for German-based Halbsicht, was a gem in its own right, plastered with warm tones and percolated bass, a sense of peace emanated from its rugged contours.

Inspiring audio paintings with this seventy-minute escape, When Things Stop To Move colors the canvass with track titles like “The Very Thought,” “With Each Step,” and “Fading Memories” that all form a gelatinous groove upon start-up. One can’t help but notice that an alternate reality exists where track titles spark thought-processes and their loosened sound particles disperse easily into the heart.  Brushing elements of sheer emotion with bass-trodden rhythms, an overarching theme prevails within these polished tracks. Evolved cloud structures form eerie pulses of percussive beauty; like cascading disillusion, DNN manages to unearth silence in the center of this chaos. A marriage of sorts between Funckarma and Einoma inspired crevasses, When Things Stop To Move exudes warmth as the cover-art conveys. Not quite post-industrial or ambient-electro, DNN regroups with each piece and allows a migration of feelings to simmer. Bitcrush adds a vibrancy to “A Silent Close” with stretched shoegaze charm. Huron entangles “The Very Thought,” adding bilateral bass-beats and a shadowed perplexity to its original.  SE’s remix of “Blue Smoke” closes out, just nicely, with an instrumental mirage of glistening guitars and subliminal clicks.

As a result of the above-mentioned progress, When Things Stop To Move is the perfect companion for summer drives on the coastline during an early morning marine layer. The gradual deceleration of low-pitched sounds and abundance of foggy transmissions has this album just waiting for further examination.
