Chroniques électroniques, based out of France, are predominately concerned with chronicling “the news output of IDM, electronics,” an online magazine, radio outfit and label that provides its fans with an audio-visual abundance of information and audio formations. This time, they’ve amassed thirteen tracks stretched over fifty-nine minutes, a mixture of sliced and diced electronics with an industrial pulse. Artist selection is at utmost quality including prolific acts such as Roel Funcken, Access To Arasaka, Defrag, Pleq, Tapage, Nebulo, Candle Nine, Undermathic; and that’s the truncated list!

And although there are interspersed sections of gritty and tormented moments, even hinting at shoegaze terrain, When Light’s Drillin’ The Haze slices through the atmosphere with a precision that is on par with the above-mentioned imprints. Its no-charge option of three-hundred and twenty kilobits per second mp3 formatted music leaves the trained ear nothing to lose (except your mind) with this download. Each piece represented offers a snapshot of the entire dark-electronic scene; a frame of reference to investigate further those musicians you might not be so familiar with. The organization of chaotic frequencies is presented not only in audible format, but in its visual facade. The cover art, perhaps the finest mechanical portrayal, describes the music as a mixture of abandoned metallic-blue factories; frayed wires, twisted steel, broken glass, cracked pipes and shards of debris propel the listener through its audio fields. Judging a book by its cover works to this compilations benefit, as it lures the eyes and satisfies the audible senses.
