Omniverse does no mark a change in sound for Mihail P, rather another side of his electronic musings is on display. Percussion has been played with in these four, reduced to primal pulses or scattered into rounded shapes from which harmonic forms unfold. The tracks sound effortless as they grow and mature with an organic ease that masks their complexity. Beautifully crafted sounds from start to finish.
Mihail P is a very exciting artist. True, to date his output has been scant but things are set to change. Since his Multiverse EP, the Macedonian musician has been busy with three vinyl appearances and a brand new 12” shortly appearing in all good record stores.
Omniverse carries the same four track format as its predecessor, opening with “Paradigm.” Drums hide behind shimmering heady notes, gentle shifts and movements scudding serenely throughout this calming piece. “Kessel Run” is cut form the same cloth. Chords slowly cascade against shuffling rhythms as Mihail P conjures up images of bucolic landscapes with undulating elegance. As in his previous compositions, nothing in this EP is overstated nor is it rushed. Instead elements are allowed to fully form with space being given in breaks where silence swells. The flip is introduced by “Experiment 6.” Beats are bolstered, broken patterns crumbled and ground without ever piercing the softened synthlines that sail in this deep and delicate work. “Sons of October” ends the record in similar fashion to its siblings. Light lines of melody ebb and flow, a sterner snare snapping, although never intruding, to bring the curtain down.
