Alexander Leonard Donat, the man behind the DIY label Blackjack Illuminist is one busy man, his own musical production has grown up sharply throughout the years, always crafted under a self-publishing attitude. As usual his music tinkers if not explodes genres boundaries. His singular music voyages oscillates between grey ambient textures, minimal synth abstractions, and plaintive dark-wave moves. This new album is fulfilled by darkened and obsessional theatrics, manifesting emotional states of existential fear, psychological isolationism, and lucid dreaminess. The songs are equally eerie, bringing to the fore a bittersweet spirit. The electronic sections spread icy tones covered by rolling cloudy melodies harmonized through the vocal parts. This new effort also captures a gloomy-like and liturgical timbre whose vibes are in some way inspired by religious oriental consonances. However, the core of the compositions are extensively based on an amalgam of kinetic, downtempo, psychout ambient grooves and bright, percolating sonic waves. The retro-futurism, the fantastic-realism, and dystopian metaphysics are used as conceptual background in this hyperactive and unpredictable electronic-rock release.
