Four crisp, brisk, and punchy tracks from MarcroNoise (aka Prague-based Tomáš Šebesta) for the Kahvi Collective this time around. Back in August (2017) we absorbed the artists’ Caravan Planet EP which yielded “a meandering electrical calm worth diving into.” With My Steps Lead Backwards, MacroNoise let’s it all out. Downtempo beatwork and guitar flicks abound on “My Steps,” an exuberant mixture of organic instrumentation, gauzy electronica, and didgeridoo strains. This track should easily be considered as the theme for the award-winning Globe Trekker travel TV show. “The Sun Shined” takes on a similar persona—engulfing bass sweeps across the landscape with brittle melodic fissures, and blissed-out vocal elements. The otherworldly charm of “Creeping Ivy” delivers low-end rumbling and a cascading percussive array. Simmering emotive layers and synthesizer sheets are elevated on “Nostalgia”—a beatless tranquilizer that is just as impacting as its counterparts. Overall, My Steps Lead Backwards is a well-balanced sojourn through sublime organic-electronic realms.
