I drove straight into Yomgaille’s sound with blinders on, not knowing what to expect, except to understand that the ever-dependable Kahvi Collective can certainly churn some fine electronic butter. Repetition and Motion delivers a nostalgic blur, its vintage synthesizer drones, tones, buzzes and warm hums meld around crisp beatwork. “B” maneuvers an emotive strand, just a few keys and an acidic warble to keep the ears and mind content. Somewhere between downtempo IDM flutter and translucent electronic bliss, “D” drifts by like a night train charged by ancient Arovane, B12, and Phonem-styled rhythms. Cascading and flowing through mid-90s electronica, subtle vocal clips are interspersed on “C,” not unlike what you might discover as tentacles of the Artificial Intelligence soundscape. Repetition and Motion delivers sublime, drifting, and meandering armchair electronics, “E” perhaps the finest of the lot, where time and space are detailed via exquisite and crisp audible beauty. What a find this one is, and a top release for 2017.
Repetition and Motion is available on Kahvi.
