Sven Laux :: Paper Streets (Dronarivm)

Long chordal moves, impressionistic soundscapes fluctuate in a vast ocean of tone colors and patterns. Detached acoustic notes, fragmented melodies open on a profound meditative estate where blurred memories meet a feeling of loss or desolation.

Dronarivm has gained a serious reputation in the world of indie electronic / emotionally-tinged experimental music with a load of brilliant materials from various international projects. Thanks to their editions I discovered the work of Aaron Martin, Anne Chris Bakker, Olan Mill among others. The Russian based label is back to us with one pleasantly evocative sound journey by Sven Laux.

Sven Laux is a German based multi-faceted artist and DJ who used to work on timbral explorations, dub-steping techno and other modern electronica. This new album reveals a clear interest for contemporary classical orchestrations in a post-minimalist mood. Enveloping and delicately absorbing atmospheres are mostly looped and punctuated by a vast catalogue of micro-sounds, reversed technical treatments. The result is quite accessible, cinematic and poetically emotional. Long chordal moves, impressionistic soundscapes fluctuate in a vast ocean of tone colors and patterns. Detached acoustic notes, fragmented melodies open on a profound meditative estate where blurred memories meet a feeling of loss or desolation.

Paper Streets is not so much an isolationist ambient work because the soundscapes are built via majestic arching textures, repetition and melody. If you are into modern classical music and spacious, beatless cinematic ambient, this album is for you. Recommended for fans of Arvo Part, Hilmar Hilmarsson, Loscil, Deaf Center et al.

Paper Streets is available on Dronarivm.
