Around this time last year we delved into Rde, a debut EP for n5MD’s digital imprint Enpeg which was described as containing “delicate bass thuds, melodic nostalgia of times gone by, and brisk electrical harmonies.” Fast forward, and Gyrowyre expands with another five track extended player, this time a bit more relaxed, easing into ambient pitter-patter and similar music from yesteryears IDM highlights.
“Strs” maneuvers its calm tones, clips and melodies through subtle voice extracts, exuding a soothing flow. The vocal bits more prevalent, “Tyme” is an energetic burst of curious activity—subdued in a swirling haze, low end fluctuations dance about in the minds ear. As the mysterious Gyrowyre traverses world sounds on “Work,” it also offers a more robust, slow-motion technoid drone, and a soundtrack-laden feel just as Kattoo might inhabit back in the day. Ornge expands and contracts, its wing span immeasurable, floating by in an abstract electronic stew, “Hmmre” fluttering about like a lost Toytronic artifact from the early 2000s. The closing and breathtaking “Dryn” is nothing short of brilliance, its emotive tugging cascades in sweet harmony, ambient electronica that bends and twists its way into the subconscious with ease.
