Dawn intends to design enveloping-soothing soundscapes which can advocate mind travels and encourage thoughtful meditative postures linked to some distant memories and to solitary, mystical landscaping sceneries.

Drifting In Silence is a space music-electronic ambient project formed by the North Carolina-based artist Derrick Stembridge. This project intends to design enveloping-soothing soundscapes which can advocate mind travels and encourage thoughtful meditative postures linked to some distant memories and to solitary, mystical landscaping sceneries.

Drifting In Silence has been active since the mid 2000s, the albums are offered in digital format. Dawn does not lack of charm, mixing fragile melodious lines, partly acoustic tones with sinuous synthesized textures. Of course there is nothing new or innovative here, however, it is carefully done—honest with a handful of interesting compositional ideas. The whole composition is beautifully produced and reveals sonorous qualities and a well articulated orchestration.

The music of Drifting In Silence can be lodged somewhere between 80s sacred space music with new-age tendencies from Robert Rich, Steve Roach and also Harold Budd, Loscil and Marconi Union’s organic minimalist dreamscapes. This is deep listening music built on an ocean of floating synth waves and slowly cinematic moves, a constantly peaceful and serene musical journey. If you are into sonic meditation and auratic affective soundscapes you might like to consider this new effort.

Dawn is available on Labile.
