4T Thieves :: Silent Sands (Rednetic)

4T Thieves is a long-time Kahvi operator of all things in the expansive netlabel music sphere. Here he has opted to release Silent Sands with revitalized UK-based Rednetic, described as “tracks that weave into each other, that shift and change gradually like snow and sand.” That description couldn’t be closer to the truth. “Shifting,” “Scorched,” “Tranquil,” and “Burning” all relate to a central theme, one that is over-arching and infused with instrumental/classical soundtrack reflections. Elsewhere you’ll find chilled tones as they ebb and flow across vast plateaus. Broken beats are dispersed upon isolated glitch effects and defects, clips and clangs. It’s not run-of-the-mill IDM either, 4T Thieves delves into silky techno-strands on “Camber” to drifting landscapes with “White.” The albums’ tempered sandy trails are both audible and infectious, a mutation of hazy electronic listening and one that seeks solace in quaint musical passages. “Firedomes” flips the equation slightly, veering towards leftfield breaks and dancefloor ready rhythms—a hypnotic detour to say the least. But just as Silent Sands contains its degree of disorder and randomness, it is perhaps best left to the imagination to fully explore. Like sand granules slowly passing through ones fingers or snowflakes melting in the palm of your hands, 4T Thieves crafts a pleasant sojourn filled with subtle low-pressure swells.

Silent Sands is available on Rednetic.
