Samaan :: Apertures of Adelaide EP

Belfast’s One Electronica was founded by two of its own talent, Samaan and The Superior Inferior. The Northern duo has managed to establish a solid base for their sounds and like-minded artists. The Northerners are starting 2015 with Apertures of Adelaide by Samaan.

The 12” is set up almost like a split EP, homegrown artist occupying the A with remixes on the flip. “Contra” breathes fire and brimstone. A looming synthesizer shadow is sculpted. Snares splinter as fingers of 303 dig into flesh. Distortion is poured atop, abrasion and fuzz rotting speakers from within. The title track follows and maintains the less than honorable intentions. Claps cut through guttural acid. Fiendish patterns are laid down as brutality batters with brazen belligerence. Basslines pound, keeping time in this aggressive work of techno devilment. The B sees “Contra” being taken on by The Exaltics and Phantom Planet Outlaws. The Jena dynamo is up first. Some of the fierceness of the original is filleted, pared back and reduced. The sinister tones of the original are simmered to a sleek and sinewy remake. The house tinted triumvirate of Binny, Mark Forshaw and John Heckle crank up the late night horror. Teeth clench and floors tremble as the Tabernacle trio dissect, dismember and ultimately devour for a terrifying take.

Apertures of Adelaide continues where Merchants and Missionaries left off. Sonic savagery is coupled with clever builds and a dancefloor focus. Analogue animalism, music minced by malice. With definite nods to the founders of techno, Samaan, and company, saw out a serrated, rust-clad style that demands attention.

Apertures of Adelaide is out on One Electronica and available via Decks.
