Laica :: ID Solution EP (Phatic Musk)

All momentum and structure dissolve in a hissing acid bath towards the end, beats and bass reduced to harsh static and VHS distortion stripes; the ghosts in this particular machine refusing to become dust-deleted.

Dave Fleet’s Laica alias evolves apace with this excellent new release on the Phatic Musk label. Dedicated to the innumerable faces stored on forgotten CCTV footage, forever to languish on dented hard-drives and rotting boxes of moldy video-tapes; ID Solution at first finds Laica heavier on the breaks and steadier of course than some of his previous releases. The track tears along a path of junglist bass wobble and mutating broiling drum patterns, Laica’s commitment to off-kilter interruptions present in abrasive lurking background murk that creeps to the surface frequently. All momentum and structure dissolve in a hissing acid bath towards the end, beats and bass reduced to harsh static and VHS distortion stripes; the ghosts in this particular machine refusing to become dust-deleted. Two further mixes (de)flesh-out the material considerably: the Decadnids remix is a spectral creepy shimmer of low-end moan, futile collapsing rhythm, and abandoned warehouse ambience; the Production Unit mix is similarly ghostly, forward-drive arrested in a muted clap-beat and pinged sonar blips. Music for 4am night buses, every passenger leaving ghosts of themselves on bulbous unlidded black eyes.

ID Solution is available on Phatic Musk.
