Nico Nightingale has been proving himself with every release, building on his past successes to create ever more complex, and persuasive, works. Another accomplished LP of hardware crafted music from this talent.

I’ve been listening to Neud Photo since he was knee high to a grass hopper; well, since his first self-released LP. Since then Nico Nightingale has been rightfully gaining attention with some superb synth-heavy records on the likes of Pylon Records, Living Tapes and Kraftjerkz. Now it’s time for Nightingale’s third vinyl LP, this time on Austria’s Electunes.

The title track introduces the record. Soft warbling synthlines, circa ’85, rumble and reverberate for a gentle and moody opener. “Partial Objects” is a brighter piece, elements of synth-pop combine with a burgeoning Disco lines for an addictive piece of Korg action. New Wave is never far away with Neud Photo, the sound surfacing as analogue chords and vocals mesh for “Nite Skool” before the soaring sounds of “Objet A” arrive for the B-Side. “Fist In The Pocket” sees Nightingale take on the mantle of score musician with a John Carpenter style piece. That slower aspect is maintained until the close, “Silent Servants” being a thoughtful piece of electronics .

Neud Photo is an obvious talent. This young synthesizer enthusiast can turn his hand to a wide selection of styles. Synth Disco surfaces on the LP, but so does Electro. Deeper moments of Electronics are present, as is New Wave. Nightingale has been proving himself with every release, building on his past successes to create ever more complex, and persuasive, works. Another accomplished LP of hardware crafted music from this talent.

Interface is available on Electunes.
