[Release page] The Mollusk (aka Melbourne-based Shane Vigo) transports Enig’matik into more melodic waters where instruments are conjoined with introspective electrical pulses of light. DUSK is straight-out emotional IDM produced sans data-shuffling where a Toytronic dynamic is presented with a smile. Take “Oxygen” as a prime example—its guitar flicker and harmonious pitter-patter is silky and discrete. “Spore” dives into astute sound-design where sheets of textures, squeaks, clips and clonks tangle with each other in serene fashion. “Sine Wave Love” is perhaps the best description in and of itself—elaborating on fragrant chimes that are chilled above softened audio squiggles as cumulonimbus clouds open in the distance. “Water,” the highlight on DUSK, takes on a darker form of perfectly executed bass drones and a swift flow that begs repeated listening. Digitalism meets erratic bleeps on the engaging “Phoqule,”—shifting the listener back in time where highly melodic electronics morphs via well-oiled drum machines and creative syncopation. The Mollusk carefully peels layer upon layer of sonic detail to craft a pleasant trip through electronic tranquility.

DUSK is available on Enig’matik. [Release page]
