A great release from Keysound, pretty much right on the pulse of the bass crossover scene.
London and Bristol unite (again) with this deep offering from Kowton & Dusk. In the London corner, Dusk brings his understated bass drenched garage stylings in the form of the slightly sinister “Fraction”. Squaring up to him in the Bristol corner is Kowton, with his own no nonsense garage styled offering called “Looking At You,” complete with classic processed vocals and infectious tweaked out rhythms. Kowton get’s the last word with his remix of “Fraction.”
“Fraction” sets the tone early with a broken beat style drum groove and horror film pads. The mini break before the first drop has a guitar fluttering away into the ether before a constantly throbbing bassline kicks in alongside the rolling broken beats. Atmosphere is a key element on this track, and it’s creepy. The track maintains its groove throughout while high end parts drift in and out developing and shifting all the time, keeping interest piqued. A mark of quality production is being able to keep the underlying groove constant and driving while the track is in constant momentum and development. Subtle and understated, Dusk gets to flex some serious production muscle on this one.
Kowton goes in with “Looking At You,” a subby stomper that will no doubt be a dance floor destruction device. UK Garage style chopped up vocals set the scene along with a hard as nails drum detail. Tweaky synth stabs and a solid beat dominate this track, along with a deep sub. Just what you want when you’re jammed against a room full of sweaty bodies.
The Kowton remix of Dusk’s “Fraction” gives a slightly tougher edge to the original, but keeps all the dark atmosphere. Not quite as progressive as the original, but a kicking track none the less.
A great release from Keysound, pretty much right on the pulse of the bass crossover scene.
