Pentagrams Of Discordia :: Whispers About Radiance (Sampler)

Pentagrams Of Discordia seem to vaporize sound itself, blending traces of past, present, and future until their downtempo worlds begin to intertwine. Beats become memories, melodies become distant signals, and atmosphere takes over as the guiding force.

Out of nowhere, and perhaps because of our curiosity about all things Pentagrams Of Discordia, Whispers About Radiance slips into view through three long-form pieces of nostalgic, downtempo analog production that feel less like compositions and more like an escape through lost time. Melancholic yet forward-thinking, propelled by atmosphere but steered by broken, disheveled beats, meandering tone clusters, and fractured rhythms, this sampler may showcase only three compositions, but it feels more like several cryptic chapters buried deep within a book of shadows.

Darkness and sadness blur around the edges, as though POD can seamlessly traverse time and space, moving between half-remembered places and dream worlds without ever fully settling in one. Each chapter carries remarkable depth; off-kilter synths intertwine with shattered percussion while uplifting reverse-looped melodies and degraded rhythms slowly dissolve, reappear, and drift away like faded memories or solitary wanderings down memory lane. Nothing remains entirely fixed; sounds and voices emerge from the haze, briefly take shape, then recede, leaving behind the feeling of having remembered something that never quite happened.

These semi-pastiche soundtracks, steeped in BOC-laden sonic syrup and kaleidoscopic drift, form another wonderful collection for those who find comfort in music that refuses to reveal everything at once. Voices, samples, pulsing old-school beats, melodies, and wandering analog sequences trace a peculiar musical trajectory, buried beneath darkness yet constantly peering toward the light. Aptly titled, the album seems to whisper a transmission of light and energy from somewhere just beyond our vision, a surface deliberately left indistinct, perhaps because it was never meant to be fully understood.

The slow-motion emotion of opener “Slowing of Evolution” unfolds across 18 minutes, conjuring fantastical stages of eroded sound that gradually take root and nurture the soul. Its movement is patient, but never static, allowing ambient passages and rhythmic fragments to guide one another through a landscape that feels both ancient and strangely futuristic. “Refrain of Dusk” maintains that slow-churning momentum, rugged drums collapsing into melodic shifts and subtle transitions while atmosphere remains firmly at its core. There is a sense of forward motion here, though it arrives more like drifting than traveling. Like reliving childhood memories, a few minutes at a time—waking up from one only to slowly fade into another.

Closing piece “Loops of Entropy” is perhaps the most structured of the three, built around heavier-duty breaks and a more pronounced sense of mood. Its title quite literally evokes “cyclic processes or recursive loops tied to disorder and uncertainty,” and the music follows suit, circling through patterns that gradually mutate rather than resolve. What begins as something comparatively grounded slowly fragments, dissolving back into ambient propulsion.

By the closing chapter, POD seem to vaporize sound itself, blending traces of past, present, and future until their downtempo worlds begin to intertwine. Beats become memories, melodies become distant signals, and atmosphere takes over as the guiding force. Eventually, all that remains is the urge to return and listen again, following layer upon layer as they hypnotize, unsettle, and reflect back some of the finest soundscapes and sound-scrapes we’ve heard this year.
