The waters here are torrid. But the result of swimming in them is to emerge somehow richer than before. The sound of subtraction through propulsion: the old and archaic riotously stripped away to leave space for the new. A violent recalibration disguised as transcendence.

A fearsome and unrelenting expression of archetypal metallurgy
Kotra drops Dim Ren as a fearsome and unrelenting expression of archetypal metallurgy channelling brutalist ancestral mores through a facade of the teachings of Odin. “Travellers” opens the three-piece with pulsating bandwidth of abrasive sonic weaponry. Full force and face melting. It’s to experience noise music as a psychedelic and hallucinatory bright light, where distortion itself becomes ceremonial and ecstatic rather than purely confrontational. “Loose Braids” traverses the same sonic landscape but seemed to evoke a propulsion of greens and golds through the inclusion of a deeper tectonic intent. Rhythms feel partially unearthed from beneath collapsing industrial strata, carrying an atmosphere of ritual circuitry and scorched acceleration. And closer “Wren Calibration” is a-typical industriana in warcry mode. If you are brave and adventurous then dive in. The waters here are torrid. But the result of swimming in them is to emerge somehow richer than before. The sound of subtraction through propulsion: the old and archaic riotously stripped away to leave space for the new. A violent recalibration disguised as transcendence. Magical.
