Raw Øblations 3: Fed to the Crows is a short sharp shock of an EP by Sombre Lux. “Nightwave Grit” saunters in under cover of night, the dark steps of a hunter killer padding across the floor of a hot, metallic jungle. There’s desperation in the track; some sort of wanting like that of a hungry beast searching for prey that will never satisfy it. “Fed to the Crows” works from a slow, dripping with reverb beat that arrives at a crossroads against distant wails and the burbling arpeggio cropping up like methane gas bubbles from the thawing permafrost. “From the Hip” closes the EP with all the bangs and not a single whimper where synthetic voices and samples cut, collide and chip into smaller fragments as the beat mashes the whole affair onward, loping into the dark and grim sunset. A gripping hard-heavy listen that won’t disappoint.
