Five questions for Halbsicht

Germany’s Halbsicht Records answers igloomag.com’s Five questions and finds out a little more about this burgeoning imprint, its vision of quality over quantity, love of music and design and acute attention to details.

Igloo Magazine :: When did Halbsicht start up and what was your inspiration?

HR :: Halbsicht Records surfaced in November 2007 and is committed to spread the electronic sound. We want to offer other artists and new talents the opportunity to present their art to an open minded public. Our goal is not the production and distribution of a mass medium. We prefer to focus our attention on a manageable limited quantity of good quality.

Halbsicht stands for love of music and design. Our products merge these two categories into an overall concept. To us, sound and image are intrinsically tied to each other to the last detail.

Igloo :: Who were some of your initial artist relations and did your location help or hinder progress?

HR :: The Internet is a great chance to offer our products to a worldwide audience. It is also very important that we are supported by some distributors in our sales outside of Germany. Because we are musicians ourselves, it was definite that we distribute our music via Halbsicht. For example we had with mnemonic and its side project The Last Gambit a more known act which of course had a very positive influence on our label. We were convinced immediately by the album Lucid Dream (Pleq). Shortly afterwards Danny of DNN was contacted and so the first two releases were published in October 2008.

Igloo :: What were some of the challenges (if any) starting up a label? …and how did you envision the label to stand apart?

HR :: As musicians we published some albums on various labels. Therefore we already had some insight behind the scenes and into the working methods of other labels. At the beginning we had no recipe for success or a vision to do things differently than other labels. It was important to us to have things firmly under control and to have more influence on the creative process. We love what we do, we do what we love and perhaps you can see and hear it in our work. In the last years, we gathered further experience while working on our label which we will take into account in our upcoming publications. We grow by facing the challenge.

Igloo :: What is your motivation in keeping the label moving forward into the next decade?

Halbsicht stands for love of music and design. Our products merge these two categories into an overall concept. To us, sound and image are intrinsically tied to each other to the last detail.

HR :: Our motivation of course is the love of music and creativity which we put in our label. Furthermore, the positive feedback from satisfied consumers, encourage us to continue the path we have taken. There are a lot of undiscovered talents and we are looking forward to do our bit promoting those hidden artists.

Igloo :: Tell us more about how you (and your staff?) take the label’s “sound” to the listeners and fans. Distribution, campaigns, live shows, word of mouth etc.

HR :: We are constantly strives to improve the awareness of our label. We are a small label with a small financial background. We cannot advertise in a huge scale. Sometimes we come up against our limits and therefore depend on outside help. We are always interested in working with radio stations, magazines, etc.. Lately we noticed an increasing interest in our work. Not least because of reviews in pertinent magazines or by radio.
