Polymath head-honcho Joseph Price takes a step away from label duties to release A major chord follows obsolete technology under his focal alias Third Son on Schematic. The London based producer shows encouraging formations in this euclidean rhythm focused 6-track EP. Fear not this isn’t some modular version of Yngwie Malmsteen, instead it feels like active research into sonic exploration—journeying across the spectrum of varying frequency terrains.

Personal selections include “Chord Four,” with its poly-rhythm dexterity. A complex layering that has a wonderful spatial awareness throughout. Quickly following is club orientated “Chord One,” displaying big room atmospherics and vocal chops that sizzles into the enveloping grooves.

Shining true to Third Son’s personality is an injection of fun when delving into the samples of the Nokia and Gameboy Advance on opening tracks titled respectfully. The execution is thoughtful and also plays to Third Son’s ability to work on the fly; surely making him an exciting contender to go catch live if you are given the opportunity.
