Everglades Computer Club :: Immortal Cybernetic Space God (Schematic Music Co.)

ECC tap into the earliest forms of electronic music, from synth-blasted electro, breaks, techno, glitch, bass, and IDM; their sounds expand from one side of the spectrum to the next.

Blistered break beats, bass and bleeps galore

The press-release for Everglades Computer Club’s Immortal Cybernetic Space God album on Schematic reads as follows: “…an electronic music project with a rotating set of members that do live improvisational performances inspired by IDM, Miami Bass, Electro, and Techno. They aim to create a low budget Kraftwerk-like experience and performance for fans of those genres. Members from the group have performed in Washington, Montreal, NYC, Brazil, Mexico, and Detroit. They have released under several Miami labels and are often disrespected producers of multiple genres.”

Such raw machine music doesn’t come around that often; and when it’s presented by Miami’s own Schematic Music Company, a label that’s been around since the 90s (before IDM’s inception)—having presented artists like Push Button Objects, Takeshi Muto, Richard Devine, Delarosa And Asora, Tipper, Otto Von Schirach, Dino Filipe, Phoenecia, and countless others—you know they’re a trusted exp-electronic music source. Blistered break beats, bass and bleeps galore; ECC tap into the earliest forms of electronic music, from synth-blasted electro, breaks, techno, glitch, bass, and IDM; their sounds expand from one side of the spectrum to the next.

Beautifully arcane terrain ::

“Discovery of the Space God” and “Escape from the Space God” both take us back to early …I Care Because You Do-era Aphex Twin and Tri Repetae-era Autechre; the rapid-fire, laser-cut, and precision glitch melded to low-end fizz-fuzz and emotional draw simply can’t be ignored. Ravaged electro forms are twisted around synth noodling acrobatics as “Tamiami Jet Propulsion” delves head-first into beautifully arcane terrain. There’s such a wide range of soundscapes and escapes featured on ICSG; its old-school groove and crunchy, sandblasted rhythms are blanketed by smooth melodic bits and bytes. Just have a listen to the extended modular traverse of “Bass in the Kingdom of the Space God” as a prime example. ECC easily capture vintage atmospheric threads and tie them firmly to classic IDM roots. The tail-end US Robotix and 28000 BPS remixes offer just enough original electro-bass maneuvering to not offset the album’s already solid trajectory.

A full-length of crisp electronics that merges several genres seamlessly together, ECC delivers 70-minutes of heavy sonic artillery blending machine music and sweet modular mechanics of which we are firmly locked into.
