Like a kid who just can’t color within the lines

A twisted little gem of electronic pop, Rockets is a collection of tracks built around solid melodic melodies that constantly bend away from convention.  Sometimes peppering the track with wild, skittering percussion made from found sounds, or creating loping, rolling bass melody—like a kid who just can’t color within the lines. The closest comparison would be In Pine Effect or Lunatic Harness era μ-Ziq (or classic Plod/Plone) but with the added flexibility of modern rhythm and sound mangling technology. From track to track, things waver to either side of the line, sometimes a very conventional melody is underpinned with very experimental percussion, or sometimes a very familiar beat is paired with a crazy unpredictable melody—each manages to be unique in its own way throughout. Overall Rockets is a very upbeat and cheerful album, a great one for the beginning of summer.
